How to prepare your garden for the arrival of Spring?

Comment préparer son jardin à l'arrivée du Printemps ?

Winter tends to do a lot of damage to our gardens because of the cold and bad weather.

But fortunately the return of sunny days is synonymous with renewal for our plants and flowers in the garden.

And yes, soon the birds will sing again, the flowers and colorful foliage will be back. Spring will soon appear for our greatest happiness.

And while waiting for it, it is essential to prepare your garden to be able to fully and peacefully enjoy it from the first warm rays of the sun.

So, follow our advice to have a perfectly flowered and clean exterior as soon as the sunny days arrive.

When to start preparing your garden for the arrival of spring?

You need to start getting active in March for a big spring cleaning.

We know that the month of March is not necessarily synonymous with the end of the cold. It's not for nothing that we talk about showers in March, right?

And yet, this is when you need to start, especially if you want to plant grass or new plants.

1. Basic cleaning

Prune dead or damaged branches, get rid of weeds, prune, collect leaves, clean... these will be your missions in order to prepare your garden for the coming of spring like an artist preparing in the shadow of his dressing room to the light of the stage.

It is particularly essential to prune your fruit trees properly to hope for a quality harvest when the time comes.

Your fruits, flowers and vegetables will thank you for this attention by bringing your exterior to its peak, because beauty is often interior, but also exterior, especially in spring.

Equipment : by hand, or with tools such as the hoe or claw or even a thermal weeder if you have one, a pruning shear to prune your branches.

2. Prepare the soil for new plantings

Soil preparation is essential for your garden to be in perfect health. You have to feed it so that it can then feed your plants and flowers.

It is therefore time to turn the earth over, to aerate the soil and break up the clods to a depth of around thirty centimeters maximum.

Before sowing the lawn, you can also add compost and manure to the soil to enrich it.

To allow your soil to rest, it is advisable to change your plantings from one year to the next and not always plant them in the same place.

Equipment : a spade, a fork, a claw or even an aerator for large gardens.

3. Plan your garden

Once your garden has been cleaned and prepared, bring together all the players who will allow your exterior to make your neighbors green with envy.

Decide in advance on the organization, think about what you want to plant and where depending on the water and sunlight needs of your plants.

4. Plant

Don't rush because the weather can be unpredictable and the earth remains cold even in early spring. Therefore, prefer the month of May to begin the most delicate plantings (e.g. tomatoes, strawberries, annual flowers).

However, you can start preparing your plants, especially bulbs, indoors in a pot with soil and sand. This way, they will be ready to be planted outdoors on sunny spring days.

If you want to plant directly in the ground, wait until outside temperatures reach at least 15 or even 20 degrees.
